Bhopal which is known as the ‘Lake City’, is the capital of Madhya Pradesh. It is also one of the greenest cities in India. The city was originally known as ‘Bhojpal’ named after Parmar King Bhoj – The founder of the city and Pal – The dam that he built to form the lakes surrounding the city.

Bhopal has a humid Subtropical climate with mild, dry winters, hot summers and humid monsoons. Bhopal has more than 550 government schools. Gandhi Medical College is one of the oldest colleges in the city along with India’s premier engineering college ‘Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology’. Paan eating is an extensive culture of Bhopal. ‘Paan’ is prepared with beetle leaf topped with variety of seasonings like chuna, kattha, supari, etc. Bhopalites treat paan preparation as a science and an art which is a tradition fassed down the generation.

Bharat Bhavan is the main cultural centre of the city and also of India. Places of interest in Bhopal are Upper lake, Lake View, Van Vihar National Park, New Market, Taj-ul-Masajid, Aquarium building, Lal Parade Ground, Takri, etc.
